How is the fabric we use eco-friendly?
Our main product fabrics come from Amni Soul Eco, the result of years of research and development to create the world’s first biodegradable and recyclable polyamide yarn that we use in our apparel. Under AST D5511 testing standards this smart fiber has shown to break down in a landfill under anaerobic conditions within 3-5 years. Most other yarns take between 10-50 years to do the same. What sustainable measures are taken when creating our fabrics?
Our main fabrics are manufactured using environmentally friendly processes, emitting less greenhouse gas emissions, and using a closed water system to waste less water during manufacturing. The actual fabrics we use are biodegradable. We also use recycled paper on our tags. Our first and primary manufacturer is a woman owned, fair trade company that is also PETA approved, and donates excess fabric trimmings to their local animal shelter. We are always seeking out additional ways to continue to and improve on sustainability measures.
Is the fabric free of toxic substances?
Yes, definitely. Our main fabrics are not treated with any chemicals to gain sun protection properties. The UPF protection factors from the sun come from the fabric itself, and the tight knit it has. Our fabrics are Oeko-Tex Standard Class 1 certified which gives the guarantee that substances which could harm the health of adults, children and babies are absent. Oeko-Tex is an independent control and certification system that is used to certify the safety of textile products for human use.
What type of fabric do you use and what are its benefits?
Our main fabric is a special polyamide blend. It offers a UPF50+ sun protection factor with other benefits; such as having an extremely soft to the touch feel, is thin and lightweight, breathable, stretchy, fast drying and performs great in the water as well.
When and how should I wear SkinnVi pieces?
Our pieces are carefully designed to be versatile- meaning you can easily and comfortably wear them anywhere and everywhere. Our biggest concern is that we help provide you with easy ways to better protect your skin from the sun. Our pieces are designed to be easy to wear during the day alone or layered to easily transition into nighttime wear if needed. They are great to pair with professional attire, workout attire, or swimwear. It’s your choice!
How do I care for SkinnVi pieces?
We recommend either hand washing, or using the cold gentle wash cycle; preferably in a mesh laundry bag. Hanging to dry is best. Do not iron or bleach.
